Chonta Condor Sighting Tour in Cusco is a lesser known full day trip that would give you an overview of the Incan mythology. The Andean Condors are the largest flying birds in the world, to Incas, they were sacred.
The full day Chonta Condor Sighting Tour starts at “Killarumiyoq”. It is a lesser known Inca site. It houses a moon stone which was also sacred to Incas. The Incas carved images of half moon on rocks here and used this site to express their gratitude to the moon during the Killa Raymi festival which is celebrated on the last Sunday of August.
Chonta Canyon is home to Andean Condors. The view point is popular among locals for condor watching. On this full day Chonta Condor Spotting Tour you will be able to see the Andean Condors in their natural habitat

We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 0800 AM. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you to Killarumiyoq. It is a remote traditional Andean community where most people still speak in Quechua.
Our local expert will be introducing you to the way of life of locals here. After a bit of a cultural orientation, we will be visiting the Killarumiyoq archaeological site. Our local expert will be giving you a guided tour of the site. This will give you an understanding of the significance of the rock to Incas and the people today.
We will then drive to Limatambo. Here we will be stopping at a local restaurant for lunch. Our meal plan has vegetarian options.
After lunch, we will hike through the Apurimac canyon with a sight of snow capped mountains for half an hour to spot the Andean Condors. We will try to reach there a little before 0200 PM as this is when the Condors fly back from hunting. The place is also home to over 100 species of birds.
Once you have had your fill of sighing the majestic Andean Condors, we will hike back to the car park. We will then be ending the Full Day Tour by driving you back to Cusco.
We highly recommend this tour. We did this before visiting the Rainbow Mountains and Machu Picchu and was perfect to acclimate. Carlos is a very good guide and has an in-depth knowledge about the culture and traditions.
