Tour Details
Tipon Pikillacta and Andahuaylillas

Half Day South Valley tour takes you to three archaeological sites near Cusco. Tipon Pikillacta and Andahuaylillas. This along with the Complete Sacred Valley tour will give you a good understanding about Incan and Pre Inca Wari culture.

The tour starts at Tipon. It is a town on the outskirts of Cusco. Tipon is popular for the archaeological ruins. They are perched on top of a hill. It is also popular among locals for their favourite local delicacy, cuy, roasted guinea pig and pork chicharrones.

Driving through the town of Oropesa, we will reach Pikillaqta. It is home to a Pre-Incan archeological site. Here, we will be visiting some of the prime parts of the complex.

We will drive further south to Andahuaylillas. It is home to the sistine chapel of Americas.

Tipon:

Tipon houses a 15th century archaeological complex. It sprawls over 239 hectares. It comprises agricultural terraces.

These terraces are fed by water channels that link to the nearby natural springs. Some aqueducts here are in use even today. Here you will discover the innovative irrigation systems of Incas.

Although, the archeological complex is not as massive as other sites in the Sacred Valley of Incas. The stone work and architecture here are impressive.

Pikillacta:

Pikillacta is a Pre-Incan archaeological site. It was built by Waris. As most Incan sites,  it too was primarily used for farming. Maize was an important crop.

In fact, it was so important that the Waris even painted them on pottery along with deities. This is the only Pre Inca site in the region.

Andahuaylillas:

Andahuaylillas is a small town. It houses a sistine chapel. Jesuits built the chapel in the sixteenth century over a pre columbian ceremonial place. It is locally called as San Pedro de Andahuaylillas.

We close the booking for the tour 24 hours before departure.

we were clueless on what to do on a free day and stumbled upon Carlos from Treks In Cusco and he highly recommended this tour. We decided to give it a go as we had tourist tickets valid for 10 days. The tour was very exceptional we visited a pre incan site too. All near the Cusco city. The guide was nice and explained a lot. We also had a chance to try the traditional Peruvuian food, CUY.

I can totally reccomend this half day tour to three sites on the South valley of Cusco. It was a very relaxed tour. The sites are a short drive away from Cusco and well worth visiting. If you have the boleto turistico and time, i highly reccomend doing this.
