Tour Details

South Valley tour in Cusco is a half day tour. It takes you to three archaeological sites near Cusco. The tours offers an orientation to Incan and pre-Incan civilisation. This is a perfect combination with the Complete Sacred Valley also known as Sacred Valley VIP trip. As both these tours together will give you a good understanding about Inca and Pre Inca culture.

The South Valley tour starts at Tipon. Tipon is a town on the outskirts of Cusco. It is popular for the archaeological ruins that sits on top of a hill overlooking the town. Tipon is popular among locals for their favourite local delicacy, cuy, roasted guniea pig.

Driving through the town of Oropesa, a town popular for bakeries, we will reach Pikillaqta. Pikillaqta is home to a Pre-Incan archeological site. Here, we will be visiting some of the prime parts of the complex.

We will drive further south to Andahuaylillas town. It is home to the sistine chapel of Americas.

Tipon is a town just outside Cusco. It houses a 15th century archaeological complex. The archeological complex sprawls over 239 hectares. It comprises of agricultural terraces. These terraces are fed by water channels that links to the the nearby natural springs. Some aqueducts here are in use even today. Although, the archeological complex of Tipon is not as massive as other sites in the Sacred Valley of Incas. The stone work and architecture here are impressive.

Pikillacta is a Pre-Incan archaeological site. It was built by Waris. As most Incan sites, Pikillacta too was primarily a farming site. Maize was an important crop. In fact, it was so important, that the Waris even painted them on pottery along with deities.

Andahuaylillas is a small town which houses a sistine chapel. Jesuits built the chapel in the sixteenth century over a pre columbian ceremonial place.
