Tour Details

Lake Sandoval Peru tour offers an introduction to the life and culture in Tambopata, Peruvian Amazon. Lake Sandoval or Lago Sandoval is an attractive lake. It offers an opportunity to immerse in the serenity and beauty of Amazon Rainforest.

Unlike the Madre de Dios river, the waters of Lake Sandoval are more clear and calm. This is one of the reasons why many animals inhabit here. It is very easy to spot many native birds and animals like hoatzins, red bellied macaws, black caimans, giant otters and more.

Our two days Lake Sandoval Peru tour with a local naturalist guide offers an extensive detail about the life of the people who are living there for generations. They have maintained their traditions and customs. You will also learn about different species of birds, animals and plants.

To enhance your Lake Sandoval Peru experience, we will also be doing a canopy walk and zip line. On the second day, we will be visiting the unmissable and the world’s largest clay lick – Macaw Clay Lick in Chuncho.

Our tour specializes in small groups and individualized attention of our guests. This offers the possibility of knowing more about the plants, birds and animals here.

Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado - Monkey Island - Canopy Walk

Our crew will be picking you up from Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal. We will then drive you to our office in the city centre. You can avail our luggage storage facility here at no additional cost.

From here, we will be driving you to the boat pier. Accompanied by our local expert, you will be travelling by our motor boat to our serene Sandoval Lake lodge amidst the Tambopata National Park.

We will be serving a typical Amazonian meal for lunch. After lunch, we will start our tour on the Oxbow lake to visit Monkey Island. Monkey Island is home to several species of monkeys. Our local expert will be explaining to you about them in detail.

From here, we will travel further deep into the rainforest. Here we will be doing a canopy walk. You will be able to see the enchanting beauty of the rainforest from tree tops. Once you have had your fill of the beauty of the surrounding rainforests of Lake Sandoval, we will return to the lodge.

Our chef will serve an authentic Amazonian cuisine for dinner. After dinner, we will go on a short night tour to spot alligators, insects and snakes.

Day 2Tambopata - Lake Sandoval - Puerto Maldonado

We will be leaving early in the morning from the lodge to see the iconic parrot’s clay lick. This is one of the magical sights in Tambopata. The clay lick here is the largest in the world.

Hundreds of parrots, macaws and parakeets fly here to eat the clay from the cliff. The clay here is rich in mineral salt that helps these birds to flush out toxins from their bodies.

After the Macaws Clay Lick, we will be returning to our lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, we will be crossing Madre de Dios river. It will be a three kilometres hike. The trail offers a chance to witness the biodiversity here.

Our guide will be explaining about different plants here. Most of them are used for medicinal purposes by locals. They heavily rely on natural remedies to cure their sickness.

We will also spot different animals like the black caimans, sloths and more in their natural habitat. After this experience, we will stop for lunch in the reserved zone.

After lunch, we will return to the lodge. From here we will be taking the boat back to the boat pier. We will be transferring you to the bus terminal or airport with a stop at our office to pick up your bags.

Exceptional service by Treks in Cusco team. We did a tour to Machu Picchu with them and decided to explore Tambopata on a short trip. The guide was very informative. He explained the way how they conserve the lake and about the people and the wildlife there. Seems like the lodge specializes in small groups. It was quaint and the food was amazing.
