Manu Jungle Tours

Manu Jungle Tours from Cusco offers a closer contact with nature and Amazonian culture. Our 4 Days 3 Nights tour gives you the opportunity to experience the best of Manu National Park with our local native Amazonian english speaking tour guide.

Manu national park dominates a vast region of the largest rainforest in the world – Amazon. It is spread in 1,532,806 hectares. The lush tropical vegetation in Manu rises from 150 metres above sea level to 4200 metres. Manu is the largest tropical rainforest in the Americas.

The national park is home to a countless species of birds, animals, flowers, plants and insects. The rainforest is home to 32 indigenous Quechua speaking native communities. They maintain their traditions and customs and are untouched by modernity. In 1987, Manu was declared as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Manu is divided into three zones – Manu Core Zone, Manu Biosphere Reserve or Reserved Zone and Cultural Zone. Access to the core zone is exclusive to researchers and scientists. Manu Reserved Zone is popular among tourists. The cultural zone is where the communities live.

It is one of the most preferred destinations in the Peruvian Amazon. Primarily because of its close proximity to Cusco which lets travellers experience Manu Cloud Forest before or after their tour to Machu Picchu.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Bambu Lodge

At 0600 AM, we will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then we will be driving you in our private transport through the South Valley of Cusco, from Andes to Amazon. The journey is a bit longer, we will be making a couple of stops on our way.

The Andean town of Ninamarca will be the first stop. The town is home to Pre-Inca funeral towers. It was built during the rule of the Lupacas civilization. Our local expert will be explaining the significance of these towers and will be uncovering many mysteries on the guided tour.

From here, we will drive to the Andean folkloric town of Paucartambo. The town has well preserved architectures which were built during the Spanish rule in the country. The narrow cobblestone streets rimmed with colonial houses leading to the colonial church will take you back to the colonial era.

We will then drive you up the hill to a viewpoint called Tres Cruces. From here you will have a panoramic view of the Amazon Basin.

From here, we will descend to Manu National Park through the eastern slope. We will go on a short hike as we enter the National Park. On this short hike, you will be able to spot the Peruvian National Bird – Andean Cock of the Rock.

After the tour, we will be driving you to the serene Bambu Lodge in Pilcopata. We will be accommodating you in an ensuite room for the night.

Day 2Bambu Lodge - Soga De Oro Lodge

We will be serving you a typical Amazonian breakfast. Then we will be driving you to the boat pier in Atalaya. We will be boarding a motor boat here to get deep into the Amazon Rainforest.

Soga De Oro lodge offers a beautiful setting and is nestled amidst the rainforest. You will be able to spot river otters and other mammals on this short and scenic boat ride.

After checking in, we will explore some of the trails near the lodge that would take us to pristine areas of Manu National Park. We will be starting with a three hours hike, the trail offers the opportunity to spot many Amazonian medicinal plants.

Locals here rely on natural medicine. They often cure their sickness using these plant based native medicines. Our guide will be explaining this in detail and will demonstrate how they make these medicines.

After the tour, we will return to Soga de Oro lodge for lunch. Our Amazonian Chef will serve a native meal. After lunch, you will have some free time. You can take a dip in the clear and fresh waters of the river.

In the evening, we will be touring on a typical native wooden raft. You will be spotting many birds, animals and mammals including the giant otters. After the experience, we will return to the lodge for dinner.

At night, we will be embarking on a short night jungle tour to spot some nocturnal insects and animals. On this tour you will be able to spot caimans.

Day 3Soga De Oro Lodge

Early in the morning, we will be taking a 15 minutes boat ride to witness the best on your tour to Manu National Park – Macaw Clay Lick. Hundreds of brightly coloured Macaws and Parrots flock into the cliff to eat the clay.

The clay here contains distinct salt which helps these birds to flush away the toxins from their body.

After the tour, we will be taking the boat back to the lodge. As we arrive, our crew will be serving breakfast. We will then embark on another boat ride to spot Capybaras. They are the largest rodents in the world.

We will return to the lodge after witnessing the sunset in Manu National Park. After dinner, you will have the option of doing another night tour. This time we will be looking for spiders, frogs and snakes.

Day 4Soga De Oro Lodge - Cusco

After breakfast, we will be checking out from the lodge. Then we will take the motor boat back to Atalaya port. We will be meeting our driver here for our journey back to Cusco.

We were not sure of getting into the wild regions of Peru but were tempted by other travellers we met. We visited Treks In Cusco office and Carlos was very kind and explained every bit of the trip in detail, we were excited and decided to book it for the next day.

Our pickup from the hotel was punctual, the guide was excellent, the food and lodging were too good. We had a chance to see many animals most of them typical to the region.

This was a very memorable experience and we highly recommend Treks In Cusco for any trip to Amazon region.

Extremely well organised tour from Cusco. We saw a large number of birds as well as animals over our four day trip.

One of the highlights was a night in their camouflage house where you get to experience the jungle in a very unique way. This is right next to a clay lick that attracts a lot of wildlife. We saw Tapirs, porcupines a deer and a snake.

Every part of the trip ran like a clockwork from the staff in their office to the driver and the boat captain through to the lodge staff who made a great meal and to the guides who were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommended this tour for any one looking for a real Amazon Experience
